Today when we got back from town we noticed that the electricity was gone at the moment. So we found our flashlights and figured out that this is Africa, and we just had to get used to it. But after a whole evening without electricity we started to get a bit impatiens. The other days when the electricity had gone it only went away for some hours, but tonight it had been several hours. So we ended our night playing “spot” in the bed with the only flashlight that had not gone out of battery. But when I was going to bed I asked Betty if she wanted me to turn the switcher so she would know when the electricity came back. And guess what, the electricity had not been gone the last hours. We had just forgotten to turn on the switcher.
It definitely gave me a message to appreciate more what I have. And that is something I have to remind me of all the time when I am here in Africa. To see how lucky I am to be able to be here working with the children everyday. Showing them the love, get to know them and getting to know a totally different culture. I will also know that I will appreciate my life in Norway so much more when I get back.
Everyday is a blessing.
Kjære Irene.
